The Devil Wears Prada guitarist Kyle Sipress revealed in an Instagram video that he wasn’t allowed to write or record material for the band’s new record, Flowers, and was learning the material to play on tour.

On the verge of releasing their new album, Flowers, longtime guitarist for The Devil Wears Prada, Kyle Sipress, posted a video of himself learning their recently released single, ‘Everybody Knows’. In the caption of the post, he’d reveal that he was in the process of learning new songs from the album for the upcoming tour.

One commentator teased in the comments, “Shouldn’t you already know these songs?” to which Sipress would reply, “I didn’t participate in this record, just live for this one.”

This opened the floodgates in the fandom, with several asking if Sipress had shared any writing credits for the new record. He would reveal in one comment, “I think they just wanted to give it a go with different people”.

One fan would stir the lengthiest response from Sipress, sharing that they weren’t sure how to feel about individual members not contributing to the new record, and that “Prada is always better when [Sipress] is involved.”

The guitarist would give his longest reply yet, writing:

“I really appreciate that, but it just is what it is. While it does make me sad and I wish I was a part of the creative side like I used to be, I do get to play guitar on stage for a living. Hopefully my ability to play live does the job this record calls for.”

Sipress would first join The Devil Wears Prada as a guitar tech before being promoted to a member of the band following Chris Rubey’s departure in 2015. Since then, Sipress has had credits on the band’s albums, Transit Blues, The Act and Color Decay.

The Devil Wears Prada is set to release their new album, Flowers, on November 14 via Solid State Records.

When speaking to Blunt, frontman Mike Hranica revealed that the band had started different songwriting sessions and were already putting the album together following the release of Color Decay. “In the lead-up to Flowers, we were writing for so long, Jon and Jeremy went to L.A. and started different songwriting sessions. I think it was only a matter of months after Color Decay was released, in fact it almost feels like it was while we were finishing Color Decay that we started the work for Flowers.”

Hranica would also share in the same interview that he had tapped I Prevail’s and Falling In Reverse writer Tyler Smith, as well as Fit For A King songwriter Bobby Lynge, to help with new material on the album.

Earlier this year, The Devil Wears Prada bassist Mason Negy would reveal that he had left the Ohio-based band after seven years ahead of the new album’s release. He would share no reason for the departure, and would thank “all the fans, my peers, my fellow band mates, all the crew I was fortunate enough to work with and whom it all wouldn’t be possible without and to all my friends and family for the endless support.”
