Karl Hyde and Rick Smith are bringing Crazy, Crazy to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, with a whole evening of Underworld on the bill.
As announced by Live Nation and Secret Sounds, Underworld will play two sets a night at their Australian headline shows in March 2027, bringing their Crazy, Crazy live format to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
Karl Hyde and Rick Smith have already tried the format in New York. Reviewing their 4 September Crazy, Crazy performance at Knockdown Center, With The Band described two sets separated by an intermission, with Underworld effectively acting as their own opening act. The review also noted a finish with ‘Born Slippy .NUXX’.
That track remains an enduring connection between rave culture and alternative cinema. Its appearance in the closing stretch of Danny Boyle’s 1996 film Trainspotting put Underworld’s electronics on a soundtrack shared with Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Blur and Pulp. As the Recording Academy’s soundtrack retrospective recounts, the band also supplied ‘Dark & Long’ for Renton’s withdrawal sequence.
For listeners who found Underworld through that collision of rock, club music and film, the headline shows offer an evening built around the duo. The Australian announcement confirms two sets at each headline date, with running times and song selections still to come.
Underworld’s official itinerary also lists WOMADelaide on 5 March and Golden Plains on 7 March, following New Zealand’s Electric Avenue on 27 February. The two-set billing applies to the headline concerts. The Australian dates add to a busy 2027 for the veteran electronic duo, who will also join Primavera Sound’s Barcelona lineup alongside Massive Attack and The Chemical Brothers in June.
Mastercard presales start at 10am local time on Friday, 23 October. Brisbane’s Ticketmaster listing also confirms artist presale access from 10am AEST that day. Live Nation presales follow on Monday, 26 October, with general tickets on sale on Tuesday, 27 October.
