Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery Gets A Twisty New Trailer

Share

Josh Brolin is toes up but Daniel Craig is on the case as Rian Johnson’s third Knives Out flick makes its way to theatrical and streaming.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the latest delicious detective story from writer and director Rian Johnson, will soon be upon on us, bringing with it a cavalcade of familiar but very welcome pleasures: an absolutely stacked cast, an intricately plotted murder mystery, and some gorgeous production design and costuming. That last bit is important – the reason people loved Murder On The Orient Express but shrugged at Death On The Nile is that the latter looks like greenscreen ass.

What’s the plot?

Excellent question! Casting about for a decent official synopsis has proved my detective skills are no match for Mr Blanc’s, but TUDUM has something that might pass muster:

Rian Johnson’s latest film brings Blanc to a small hamlet in leafy upstate New York, where eager young priest Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor) has been sent to assist the local priest, Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin).

After a seemingly impossible murder rocks the town, local police chief Geraldine Scott joins forces with Blanc to unravel a mystery that pushes the boundaries of both faith and reason. But as Blanc puts it, “This was dressed as a miracle, it’s just a murder. And I solve murders.”

Obviously it’s Brolin’s charismatic fire ‘n’ brimstone pulpit puncher who gets bumped off by someone in his flock, and it’s probably not Josh O’Connor’s priestly n00b, as that would be way to obvious. But we’ll have an answer by the time the credits role, rest assured.

Who’s in it?

Former 007 Daniel Craig is, of course, back as suave Southern super sleuth Benoit Blanc. Johnson always manages to pull together amazing casts for his Knives Out flicks, and this one is no exception, so expect to see:

  • Josh O’Connor as Reverend Jud Duplenticy, a priest.
  • Glenn Close as Martha Delacroix.
  • Josh Brolin as Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, a priest.
  • Mila Kunis as Geraldine Scott, a police chief.
  • Jeremy Renner as Dr. Nat Sharp.
  • Kerry Washington as Vera Draven.
  • Andrew Scott as Lee Ross.
  • Cailee Spaeny as Simone Vivane.
  • Daryl McCormack as Cy Draven.
  • Thomas Haden Church as Samson Holt.

When’s it out?

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is in select cinemas November 27 and on Netflix worldwide December 12.

What’s the vibe?

Extremely positive! We have a lot of love for Johnson’s Benoit Blanc puzzlers – and his excellent series Poker Face as well, come to think of it. We’ll be there with bells on when this one drops later in the year.
