Christmas is shaping up to be absolutely stacked this year, with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Matrix Resurrections both set for December. If your nerd heart was already beating at maximum pace, well, avert your gaze from the following, as this very well may give you a cardiac event. The first official trailer for Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye series as arrived, promising us a hefty dose of yuletide action.
Jeremy Renner will reprise his role as the wise-cracking Avenger Hawkeye, aka Cliff Burton. Per the trailer, the Disney+ series will take place after Avengers: Endgame, with Barton once again reunited with his family and eager to make up for their five-year absence (on account of being dusted by the almighty Thanos). But of course, these plans go awry with fiery, explosive results, as Burton reveals that what happened during the five-year blip didn’t necessarily stay in the five-year blip – which, to be fair, has more of less been the backdrop of all the recent Marvel series. And that isn’t a complaint.
The show will introduce Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), who dons the mantle of Hawkeye’s mid-blip persona, the underworld-slaughtering Ronin. With Ronin back on the scene, there are plenty of figures lining up to get their revenge, with Burton and Bishop teaming up to take them down. One interesting tidbit will be the fact that Burton has no super powers, and is more or less a regular guy with 20/20 vision. That said, the trailer obviously puts him in situations that would make his super-serum’d pals weak at the knees. The Hawkeye series will no doubt give us a glimpse at how a regular joe would handle these situations – just like one of us, y’know?
Hawkeye is slated for a November release on Disney+, putting it high atop the Christmas content tree. It’s safe to say there hasn’t been this many gunshots in and around falling snow since Die Hard – which could have a new contender for Best Christmas IP.
