Hosted by tattoo artist Louie Tattooie, The Blunt Mag Tattoo Podcast is a series which dives deep into the philosophy of tattooing featuring some of the industries most prolific identities. For Episode 7, Louie invites Gold Coast geometric gun, Rico Geometry. Catch up on Episode 6 with Johnie Evans
Geometric tattoos are nothing short of a trip. These are the kind of pieces that the more you look at, the more that’s revealed. Even those of us who have them, we should know them intimately by now but I’ll be damned if I don’t catch a new angle, or line or sequence while showering every now and then. As it turns out, creating geometric tattoos is no less of a trip for artists, as we would learn speaking with Gold Coast artist Rico Geometry.
Rico stopped by for the latest episode of the Blunt Mag Tattoo Podcast, where he ran us through his origin story, and how he found his way to strapping a saddle on one of the tattoo world’s most complex artforms.
Starting his career in South Australia, Rico meandered to the other side of the world, to the UK, clocking well-earned studio hours before returning to Australia, finding a new home in the Goldie where he established the private tattoo studio, Ellipsis Tattoos.
While no particular style is off limits, mandalas, patterns, linework, fine line, dotwork, and ornamental pieces – pieces that require intense focus and dedication is where Rico shines, diving head first into the type of work that make the creatively challenged of us utter quietly to ourselves ‘…how the fuck?’
We picked six of Rico’s pieces that particularly blew our mind, but be warned, some serious future tattoo inspiration waits in the list below.
