“Whatever happened to Tommy Shelby, the famous Gypsy gangster?”
Peaky Blinders wrapped in 2022, and a lot has happened since then. Star Cillian Murphy won an Oscar, for one thing, which is something the new teaser for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man takes pains to note. Other than that, it’s all a bit vague and ominous, but let’s see what we can augur from this brief look at the upcoming feature film.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man Trailer
What’s the plot?
As the official synopsis tells us:
Birmingham, 1940. Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground.
If you’re a fan – and God help you if you go into this thing cold – you know that the sixth season of Peaky Blinders, released in 2022, ended with our conflicted crime lord Tommy riding off into the sunset, having pretty much burned his entire life to the ground. What brings him back? Your guess is as good as ours.
Who’s in it?
- Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby.
- Stephen Graham as Hayden Stagg.
- Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne.
- Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong.
- Packy Lee as Johnny Dogs.
- Ian Peck as Curly.
Plus Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Jay Lycurgo, and Barry Keoghan in roles that have yet to be announced.
When’s it out?
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is in select cinemas from March 6, 2026, before hitting Netflix on March 20.
What’s the vibe?
Series creator Steven Knight, who’s a bit of a dab hand at violent, OTT historical epics, is on writing duties once again, so that’s a good sign, as is the presence of director Tom Harper, whose Wild Rose you should absolutely track down. Whether people will show up at the theatre for something that’s dropping on streaming almost immediately is a whole different matter, of course, especially given that we’re accustomed to watching Tommy and the lads from the comfort of our couches, but those piercing blue eyes do look great on the big screen.
