Henry Cavill’s out and Liam Hemsworth’s in as Netflix’s hugely popular video game adaptation returns.
Yes, yes, no more Henry Cavill in The Witcher – he’ll be putting his sword-swinging skills to good use in the upcoming Highlander remake as soon as his bones knit (Big Cav was reportedly injured in training). But look, a long white wig can work wonders, and to prove the point here’s Liam Hemsworth stepping into Geralt of Rivera’s leathers. Practically indistinguishable, right?
The Witcher Season 4 Trailer
What’s the plot?
It’s the streaming adaptation of the wildly popular video game franchise, which is itself based on the fantasy novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. But the long and the short of it is that mutant bounty hunter Geralt bestrides the cod-medieval land known as The Continent, hunting monsters and kicking asses. If you’ve played any of the fames, you know the gist.
As for this upcoming season, the official synopsis tells us:
After the Continent-altering events of Season Three, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies. As their paths diverge, and their goals sharpen, they stumble on unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. And if they can accept these found families, they just might have a chance at reuniting for good…
Obviously the series has laid down some narrative track, so if that doesn’t make any sense to you, you may want to point yourself at S1E1 and go from there.

- Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivera (whispers: that’s the Witcher)

When’s it out?
The Witcher Season 4 hits Netflix on October 30, with all 10 episodes dropping at once.
What’s the vibe?
Well, this could go either way – Cavill was a big part of The Witcher‘s appeal, no matter how popular the games and books are. And let’s face it – “Liam” isn’t the first name that springs to mind when you hear “Hemsworth”, is it? Here’s hoping he can make the role his own, but there’s no telling at this remove.
