Tonight Alive Reignite With First Melbourne Gig in Seven Years

Share

Tonight Alive are officially returning for their first Melbourne headline show in seven years, playing Max Watts this September.

After a long hiatus and a quiet few years, Tonight Alive are finally making their way back to Melbourne for their first headline show in the city since 2018.

The Sydney-born rock outfit will return to the stage at Max Watts on September 19, marking their first proper Naarm set in seven years. It follows a brief but powerful reunion in 2024, when the band hit the stage for two intimate Sydney shows before jetting to Vegas for When We Were Young.

Though they’ve popped up here and there – including a memorable bushfire benefit gig at the Corner Hotel in 2020 – Tonight Alive have been largely off the grid since wrapping the touring cycle for Underworld. Side projects and solo ventures took the lead, with Jenna McDougall launching Hevenshe and drummer Matty Best joining Sleeping With Sirens.

Now, Tonight Alive is back, and this Melbourne date could be a rare window to catch them live.

“Reuniting in Sydney last year was pure magic,” the band shared. “We know so many of you travelled to see us, so with Melbourne being our first home away from home, we want to come back and return the love!”

“Let’s put another one in the books! See you in September x Jenna, Jake, Cam and Matty,” the post continues.

Tickets to Tonight Alive’s Melbourne gig are on sale now via OzTix, although from the looks of it they’re selling fast (likely due to the under $70 price tag, a rarity even for smaller shows at venues like Max Watts). The band also shared that VIP upgrades are available on the official Tonight Alive store – if you’re wondering exactly what that entails though, we’ve got you covered.

Fans who fork out an extra $80 (show ticket not included in that price) can attend a meet & greet with the band, as well as early entry to the venue, some VIP swag, and access to a three-song Tonight Alive acoustic pre-show performance of the “2011 B-Sides.” For fans who’ve been biding their time waiting to catch the Aussie icons live, this might just be the best way to do so.

While Tonight Alive’s Melbourne show announcement doesn’t come with the promise of any new music or further dates, fans can dream – and hope this might herald more from the outfit in future. For now though, if you’re in Melbourne, you better cop a ticket before they’re all gone.
