In the most Nicolas Cage headline imaginable, Nicolas Cage has revealed that he’s a legit fan of Australian hardcore outfit Nicolas Cage Fighter.
No lawsuits, no cease and desist — just full-blown endorsement from the man himself.
Speaking to The Guardian in a reader interview, the actor was asked how he feels about the sheer number of weird and wonderful things named after him — including projects like Cage Against The Machine (yep, that’s real). While he didn’t know that one, he did drop a surprise shoutout to the Aussie band bearing his name: “I think they’re terrific. Their songs are empowering.”
Same, mate.
Cage went further, quoting lyrics from the band’s 2022 release Compound And Fracture, specifically their no-bullshit message about accountability: “Re-evaluate your life / Focus on yourself / Look me in the eyes again / Tell me that none of this is your fault.” It’s a strange little full-circle moment — the actor known for going nuclear on screen is now praising a band who do the same through breakdowns and blast beats.
“They’re not afraid to write songs about where you have to own up to your mistakes,” Cage said, proving he’s not just aware of the band — he’s actually listened.
Nicolas Cage Fighter, for their part, are working on a new album set for release later this year. No word yet on whether they’ll return the favour with a tribute track called Put the Bunny Back in the Pit, but we can dream.
Meanwhile, the actor’s also busy playing NFL legend John Madden in an upcoming sports drama, leading Spider-Noir for Marvel, and continuing to be mistaken for Nick Cave. (“Every day,” he says.) Cave, in turn, once praised Cage’s performance in Mandy, because of course he did. Everyone’s connected in the Nicolas Cinematic Universe now.
Moral of the story? Nicolas Cage knows about Nicolas Cage Fighter — and he thinks they rip. We’re through the looking glass, and it rules.
