I Prevail Usher in a New Era With Explosive New Single ‘Violent Nature’

Share

I Prevail have launched their next chapter with the brutal and fast-paced new single ‘Violent Nature’, marking their heaviest release to date in the wake of Brian Burkheiser’s departure.

Grammy-nominated Michigan outfit I Prevail have returned with their first new music of the year, releasing ‘Violent Nature via Fearless Records. The track arrives alongside a new music video and signals a sonic shift for the band, who have described this as one of the most aggressive songs they’ve ever released.

Clocking in at just over two minutes, ‘Violent Nature’ wastes no time. The track channels the raw intensity of I Prevail’s early material while leaning harder into metallic chaos. Guitars swing between chug-heavy breakdowns and urgent riffing, anchored by frontman Eric Vanlerberghe, who now handles all vocal duties for the first time since clean vocalist Brian Burkheiser’s departure last week. His performance pushes deeper into harsh vocal territory while retaining the clarity and hook-driven delivery the band is known for.

Speaking on the track, Vanlerberghe describes it simply: “Aggressive, fast, and heavy. All packed into 2 minutes and 10 seconds. Turn it up and put your head through the fucking wall.”

I Prevail have long been a band willing to stretch the limits of metalcore. Their 2016 debut Lifelines went gold in both the US and Canada. Follow-up album Trauma earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album and included the single Bow Down, which was also nominated for Best Metal Performance. Their most recent full-length, True Power, dropped in 2022 and saw the band doubling down on experimental production, blending heavy riffs with electronic elements and melodic flourishes.

‘Violent Nature’ strips things back to a more visceral form of heaviness, trading polish for grit while introducing what feels like a refreshed focus. It’s the first taste of what’s shaping up to be a pivotal era for the group, with Vanlerberghe now steering the band’s identity vocally and creatively.

Australian fans last caught I Prevail in 2024 as main support for Parkway Drive’s absolutely massive 20th anniversary tour. Their set was met with widespread praise, proving their live presence matches their increasingly intense recorded output.

With ‘Violent Nature’, I Prevail aren’t just ramping up for a new album cycle – they’re marking the next stage of their evolution.
