Marianas Trench brought big hooks and bigger emotions to 170 Russell for the final stop of their Force of Nature tour.
Marianas Trench wrapped up their whirlwind Australian return at Melbourne’s 170 Russell on Sunday night, bringing a wave of nostalgia, big feelings and bigger pop-rock theatrics to a crowd who knew every word.
Local support Juno warmed things up, blending alt-pop shimmer with enough heart to match what was coming. Their set was short, sharp and packed with charm – the perfect lead-in to what felt like a long-awaited reunion.
With guitarist Mike absent due to an emergency, the rest of the band didn’t miss a beat. From opener ‘A Normal Life’ through to the final note of new album closer ‘Haven’, they packed two decades of material into a set that hit all the emotional pressure points.
Marianas Trench frontman Josh Ramsay held court with the ease of a seasoned showman, shifting from falsetto flourishes to full-throttle belts, guiding the room through hits like ‘Desperate Measures’, ‘Fallout’, ‘One Love’ and ‘Who Do You Love’ like they’d never left.
The crowd was all smiles – a mix of longtime fans, curious partners, and unsuspecting parents who couldn’t help but get swept up in it all. Even the most reluctant onlookers were on their feet by mid-set, dancing through the medley of ‘Cross My Heart’, ‘Celebrity Status’ and ‘Shake Tramp’.
Whether it was the orchestral drama of ‘Into the Storm’ or the full-body singalong to ‘Stutter’, every moment felt personal.
Marianas Trench might have been away from Aussie stages for a while, but Sunday night proved they haven’t lost a step. Melbourne showed up in full voice, and the band gave them everything they came for.
