Peggy Gallagher: “I Was the Instigator Behind the Oasis Reunion”

Share

Turns out the biggest band reunion of the decade wasn’t sparked by a record label offer, a tearful brotherly epiphany, or even Liam’s ego — it was their mum.

Peggy Gallagher has revealed that she was the one who pushed Liam and Noel to finally put the beef to bed and bring Oasis back for the Live ’25 tour.

Speaking to Ireland’s Mail on Sunday, Peggy confirmed what many longtime fans might have suspected: “I was the instigator, yes. But sure, wasn’t it always going to happen at some time or other?” Modest as ever, she added, “It was their choice, of course. Look, you can’t force them to do things they don’t want to do.” Sure, Peg. But also… yes you can, if you’re you.

With the brothers set to kick off the massive world tour on July 4 in Cardiff, the Gallagher matriarch admitted she’s feeling the pressure: “I’ll be glad when it’s all just over because it makes me get too stressed.” Still, she’s planning to hobble her way into the Dublin show in August post-knee surgery: “That’s my plan anyway… it will be great.”

Oasis haven’t played together since 2009, and while speculation has followed every Liam tweet and Noel shrug since, it took Peggy — who once loaded a moving truck in the dead of night to escape her violent husband with three sons in tow — to actually make it happen. That same take-no-shit attitude is probably what convinced two of the most famously stubborn men in rock to get back in a room.

Liam has long credited her for getting them through it: “It was immediately better for all of us.” And now, I mean it’s better for all of us, too. So when you’re belting out “Champagne Supernova” in a stadium this summer, raise your overpriced pint to Peggy.
