Ghost of Yōtei Gameplay Deep Dive Reveals A Lo-Fi Beats Mode, New Weapons And More

Share

Ghost of Yōtei is adding new weapons, a larger world and a lo-fi chill beats mode to the game.

Folks, I hope you’ve been studying the blade, because developer Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei is right around the corner.

PlayStation held a State of Play last night, giving us an extensive deep dive into the game. We saw how the Ghost of Tsushima sequel will be refreshing its combat, setting up a new story and developing a fresh Japan for us to explore.

Set 300 years in the future, you play as Atsu, a ronin hunting down six outlaws who killed her family. This has given Atsu the reputation of an onryō, a vengeful spirit who only exists for revenge. As you hunt these outlaws down, your legend will grow, but so will your list of adversaries.

As expected with the sequel, we’re getting a larger world to explore in with a slew of new weapons to hack and slash with as well. The Ghost of Yōtei deep dive also revealed a brand new feature for the game that will make combat and exploring more relaxing.

Ghost of Yōtei will feature a new ‘Watanabe mode’, which plays lo-fi hip hop tracks as you explore. Sucker Punch has partnered with the director of the iconic 2004 anime Samurai Champloo Shinichirō Watanabe for these tracks.

All gamers have to do to access them is switch to this Watanabe mode in your settings, and your gameplay experience will be scored by lo-fi chill beats to decapitate outlaws with.

This is one of two other modes in Ghost of Yōtei inspired by famous Japanese directors. The first being an Akira Kurasawa mode, returning from the previous game. The other is a brand new Takasha Miike mode, which is a more action focused, bloodier cinematic style. If these modes aren’t your vibe, worry not, they’re completely optional. But for those who love taking aesthetic screenshots while they play, this is sure to be your jam.

Ghost of Yōtei releases exclusively on the PS5 on October 2nd this year. And if you’re one of the few who still hasn’t gotten a PS5 yet, or looking for an upgrade, you can now get a limited edition Ghost of Yotei designed console with the game (which looks pretty sweet if you ask me).
