Tool’s Adam Jones Confirms Band Working On New Music

Share

Tool have shared that they’ve consistently been hosting writing sessions to prepare material for a new album, and are aiming to release a new album sooner rather than later.

We’ve now gone six years without a new Tool album, which means we’re halfway through as long as the 13 year gap between 10,000 Days and Fear Innoculum. To mark such a milestone, Tool’s very own Adam Jones and Maynard James Keenan have given an update on new material.

In an exchange, Keenan admitted the band were “Writing, I guess”. You guys are busy, Adam?”

Jones would reply “We want to get another record out and play, do what we do.”

He would add: “The three of us have been jamming. I don’t know if you go, oh, the writing process has started. It’s always there. Between preparing for an upcoming tour or whatever we’re doing, there’s points where someone goes, oh, I got this and I got this. But I think we’re going to dive deep soon.”

While this all sounds well and good, this is Tool we’re talking about here. We didn’t hear rumblings of Fear Innoculum until at least 2013, and the band only confirmed Keenan was tracking vocals as early as 2017.

In saying that, the band have announced they’re determined to release material sooner rather than later. Keenan shared that Ozzy Osbourne’s recent passing has actually been a huge inspiration in stirring the band to action. “You know, life is short. You just got to f****ng do it now. There is no waiting,” shared Keenan. “You don’t know what’s coming tomorrow. You go to do it now. So that’s what we’re doing.”

At least this time around, the band have a head start. In a 2022 interview with Blabbermouth, drummer Danny Carey shared, “I’m sure it won’t take us this long for the next one. We even had some stuff left over from the last one that we’ll develop. We have head starts on three or four new songs.” That’s at least half a Tool album right there.

Even bassist Justin Chancellor shared that the band were having frequent writing sessions earlier this year in an interview with Metal Injection. “We gave it a stab for a couple months. We ended up compiling all the ideas we had; normally when we do that, we start writing pretty soon after,” the bass player revealed.

“When we’re done with Europe, we’re gonna dive back in during the second half of the year.” Chancellor would then share an Instagram post with the caption “Vacation is over…” alluding to more writing sessions.

Here’s hoping we’ll hear a new album sometime before 2030.
