The Used Tease Big New Project, And My Chemical Romance Could Be Involved

The Used’s Bert McCracken has hinted at a major 2026 project, reigniting fan hopes for a My Chemical Romance collaboration.

The Used have hinted at a major project arriving in 2026, with frontman Bert McCracken once again fuelling speculation of a collab involving My Chemical Romance.

Since My Chemical Romance reunited in 2019, McCracken has often floated the idea of the two bands touring together again, noting that their shared runs in the 2000s remain fan favorites. In past interviews, he has even said a joint headline trek would be “the biggest tour of all time.”

Speaking with Rolling Stone Australia during The Used’s current Australian tour, McCracken added more fuel to that fire. “They’ve been just begging us to tour and we’re like, Stadiums? Nah, we’ll do the 1200 cap,” he said jokingly.

“But there’s a big plan for next year. We’re doing a split EP, not with My Chemical Romance, but with just half the band. We’ve joined forces via a super group.”

Pressed for more details, bassist Jepha only smiled and shrugged, adding, “I don’t know.” The vague response has only added to fan speculation, especially given the long-running connection between the two bands.

The Used and My Chemical Romance previously collaborated in 2005 on a charity cover of Queen and David Bowie’s Under Pressure to raise funds following the devastating tsunami disaster in South Asia. Although My Chemical Romance later split in 2013 before reforming, their ties with The Used have remained part of both bands’ lore (and a brain-chemistry changing period of time for emos).

The Used are currently celebrating their 25th anniversary with a tour built around full-album performances of their first three records: The Used (2002), In Love and Death (2004), and Lies for the Liars (2007). Meanwhile, My Chemical Romance are in the middle of a US stadium tour, where fans have been picking apart stage props and Easter eggs for hints of new music.

While McCracken stopped short of directly confirming an MCR collaboration, the tease of a “super group” project for 2026 has given fans plenty to speculate about in the meantime.
