Hideo Kojima shared a new trailer for his upcoming horror game OD starring Hunter Schafer, and it’s giving off major P.T. vibes.
The internet’s most beloved video game developer and film reviewer Hideo Kojima has given us our first in-depth look at his upcoming horror game OD. The trailer was shown at the Kojima Productions 10th Anniversary event, and, not to get ahead of myself, but it’s looking pretty darn spooky.
The new trailer confirms that the game will run on the controversial Unreal Engine 5 instead of Kojima’s own Decima Engine (which the recent Death Stranding 2 was developed on). But, most importantly, we have confirmation that OD will be a first-person horror title, like the recent Resident Evil games or Kojima’s own P.T. demo from 2014.
Speaking of P.T., the trailer hints at similar themes from the get-go. In the three minutes, we saw the playable character lighting candles in a near-empty room. Some of these candles are shaped like babies, and whenever the character would light one, a cry could be heard in the distance. One of these candles would melt into an oozing pile of blood while worms shoot out from a cup. Then, a looming mysterious figure appears behind the character, grabbing them.
The trailer also shows a quote at the start that raises more questions than answers. The quote in full reads:
“The hungry purple dinosaur ate the kind zingy fox, the jabbering crab, and the mad whale and started vending and quacking.” Make of that what you will!
Beyond that, there isn’t much to go on. However, I’m sure over-eager Kojima fans are already exporting their 20-minute video essays breaking down the trailer right now.
Another key bit of information we got from the trailer is that Sophia Lillis (IT/IT Part 2) will be the face and voice of a playable character in the game. It was announced in 2023 that she would be co-starring alongside Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) and Udo Kier, who is likely familiar to many from his appearance in Korn’s ‘Make Me Bad‘ music video.
Currently, information is still scarce regarding the upcoming game. Kojima himself has also not confirmed a forthcoming release date or when we can expect to learn more about the game, so it’s likely we have a few more years before it finally releases. Regardless, for those mourning the loss of P.T., it’s looking like OD might be the successor you’ve deservedly been waiting for.
