A Death Stranding Anime Series Is Coming To Disney+

Share

Hideo Kojima’s post-apocalyptic epic has found a home at the House of Mouse.

Death Stranding will be an anime series soon, thanks to the cheerful cultural oligarchs over at Disney. According to NME, video game godhead Hideo Kojima made the announcement when he stuck his head in at Disney’s Asia Pacific original content showcase in Hong Kong. Kojima later confirmed the news on social media.

Takayuki Sano will direct the series, with Kojima executive producing. Word is that all new characters are going to be introduced into the setting, but you’d expect that, wouldn’t you?

For those not down with the stranding, Death Stranding was released in 2019 and follows courier Sam Porter Bridges (Norman Reedus) as he walks his route across post-apocalyptic America, delivering supplies, connecting the last scattered remnants of humanity, and vibing like a cross between The Road and The Postman. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach followed earlier this year and was, if anything, even more celebrated than its predecessor.

Now word yet as to whether Norman Reedus, who really must be thanking his lucky stars for the existence of The Walking Dead, will lend his vocal talents to the series, nor George Miller, the Mad Max madman having cropped up in the second game.

We do have a working title, though: Death Stranding Isolations. And we do have a brief, near meaningless logline:

“Set in the world of Death Stranding, Death Stranding Isolations (working title) will tell a completely new story, separate from that of the video games. The upcoming series will follow a young man and woman as they set out on an adventure.”

Glad we cleared that up. Fans are really being spoiled for Death Stranding derivative content, though, with A24 currently beavering away on a feature adaptation of the game. Will either of them be any good? Well, that’s rub, isn’t it? we shall see.
