Limp Bizkit Honour Late Bassist Sam Rivers With Emotional Onstage Tribute In Mexico City

Share

Limp Bizkit returned to the stage for the first time since the passing of longtime bassist Sam Rivers, and the moment hit hard.

The band stepped onto Mexico City’s Estadio Fray Nano on November 29th, carrying the weight of grief and decades of shared history, and turned their set into a heartfelt tribute for the man who shaped their sound from day one.

A tribute that stopped the show cold

Mid set, the venue lights dimmed and an emotional video for Rivers rolled out on the massive screens, the crowd fell into a hush as the clip traced his legacy, closing with the words ‘Sam Rivers, our brother forever’ and ‘Sam Rivers, we love you forever.’ The band stood shoulder to shoulder watching the footage with everyone else, and when the final frame faded out, the members embraced, a quiet but devastating show of unity.

The moment was caught on video by Limp Bizkit Japan:

Earlier that day, drummer John Otto shared a raw, deeply personal reflection on Instagram:

Today is going to be tough. A first I never wanted to experience…” He wrote about growing up with Rivers, travelling the world together, and the bond that stretched far beyond the stage. “You’ve always been there. The godfather to my girls, my best friend – my brother… This one’s for you Sammy.

Fred Durst’s tribute and the band moving forward

In the days after Rivers’ passing was confirmed on October 18th, Fred Durst posted his own tribute video, calling Rivers “such a gifted, unbelievably sweet and wonderful person” and thanking fans for the outpouring of support.

Reports later confirmed Rivers died from a cardiac arrest at his home in St Johns County, Florida.

Richie Buxton (Kid Not) steps in

For the Mexico City show, the band brought in Richie Buxton (Kid Not) on bass, known for his work with Ecca Vandal, who are currently supporting Limp Bizkit across South America.

Limp Bizkit will continue their scheduled dates across Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil before headlining Download Festival, 2026.
