Metallica Could Be Eyeing A Las Vegas Sphere Residency For 2027

Metallica might be gearing up to do what Metallica does best, take something already massive and crank it into the stratosphere.

A fresh report suggests the metal giants are close to locking in a residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere, the futuristic, 17,600 capacity venue that’s basically built for bands who want their live show to feel like a full body experience.

According to The Sun’s Bizarre column, negotiations are reportedly “90 percent” complete, with the residency tipped for 2027 after the band wraps their mammoth M72 World Tour, currently set to finish in July this year.

The report claims a source described as a “mole” says talk of Metallica taking over Sphere is already spreading fast across the Strip.

“Metallica having a residency at the Sphere is all anyone is talking about,” the source said, adding the band have met with venue execs and technical teams to plan a show “in principle.”

Nothing has been signed yet, but the insider reckons the deal is getting close, with Sphere bosses reportedly hyped about what Metallica could pull off inside the venue’s immersive tech heavy setup.

“Metallica will bring a different feel to a show there,” the source added.

Rumours are not new

If you’ve been paying attention, the rumours haven’t come out of nowhere. Back in August, Lars Ulrich addressed Sphere whispers during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, and while he wouldn’t confirm anything, he wasn’t exactly subtle about wanting it.

“I’m not going to confirm anything, because there’s nothing to confirm… but I would f**king love to do it,” Ulrich said.

He also mentioned Metallica’s management and production teams had already toured the venue, describing Sphere as “the beginning of another chapter in live performances” after seeing U2’s opening night.

Bassist Robert Trujillo backed that excitement up shortly after, pointing out the insane visual potential for Metallica’s deeper cuts.

“Imagine a song like ‘Orion’ and what you can do with that,” he said. “The possibilities are endless.”

For now it’s still officially unconfirmed, but if Metallica do land a Sphere residency? Expect something phenomenal.
