If it feels like Korn have gone quiet on the album front, and that may not be an accident.
Guitarist Brian ‘Head’ Welch has confirmed the band isn’t putting any pressure on themselves to rush out new material, instead choosing to step off the traditional album cycle and enjoy where they’re at right now.
Speaking in a recent interview with Loudwire, Welch explained that the band has embraced slowing things down after decades of sticking to a near-constant studio routine, since rejoining Korn in 2013, he says they’ve barely stopped recording.
“I really love the fact that it’s taking a long time. I always told management that I wish that we would wait a little bit between albums. We’re just so addicted to the studio that we get in there and we’re putting albums out every two or three years, ever since I rejoined. And so I love that there’s been delays.”
For a band that’s been active since the early 1990s, Welch says Korn are in a rare position where they don’t need to chase relevance or force new releases to stay visible, their back catalogue does most of the heavy lifting.
“We’re a fortunate band, we’ve been around for awhile and we’ve got an extensive catalog with a lot of well-known songs. We’re focusing right now on our live show … It feels like we don’t even need a new album. Everything’s just going so well, but that’s not to say we’re not going to find some time to go in again. I feel like it’s not priority right now.”
Live performance focussed
That focus on live performance has been obvious, with Korn continuing to pull massive crowds and deliver tightly honed sets built around decades of genre-defining material, rather than writing under deadline pressure, Welch suggests the band would rather wait until inspiration hits naturally.
Still, fans shouldn’t take the lack of urgency as inactivity, Welch hinted that 2026 could bring movement, just not necessarily in the form of a full length record (per Lambgoat).
“We’re going to meet together and see where we’re at. There could be a couple of surprises this year … We’re going to have some cool announcements for dates around the world and stuff coming this year.”
Korn are doing what few legacy bands manage, playing to their strengths, trusting their catalogue, and letting new music arrive when it’s actually ready.
