King 810’s David Gunn On Flint, ‘Rustbelt Nu Metal’ And Bringing The Weight To Australia

Share

King 810 are heading back to Australia next week for their first ever headline tour, we caught up with frontman David Gunn to discuss heading back our way.

Hailing from Flint, Michigan, King 810 have never separated their music from where they’re from, since 2014’s ‘Memoirs of a Murderer’ cracked the Billboard Hard Rock charts, the band have built a reputation around unfiltered storytelling rooted in poverty, violence and survival. That DNA still bleeds through everything they do.

We sat down with Gunn ahead of the tour and asked what still ties him to that era and whether success has sanded off any of the edges, we also dig into the weight of carrying Flint on his back, and whether that burden ever gets old.

Last year King 810 released ‘Rustbelt Nu Metal’ and ‘K7 Rustbelt Nu Metal 2’, both recorded live in front of an audience, it’s a bold move in an era obsessed with polish. Gunn explains why capturing that live volatility mattered, and whether the term “nu metal” still carries baggage, or if it’s something worth reclaiming on their own terms.

Controversy has followed King 810 from day one, we ask Gunn whether that attention has ultimately helped or hurt the band, and if there’s anything he wishes he’d handled differently in public.

With supports locked in from Melbourne heavyweights The Gloom In The Corner and the ever unpredictable Dregg, this run isn’t built for passive listening, it’s prime time for a band that thrives on discomfort and catharsis.

King 810 previously tore through Australia supporting In Hearts Wake. This time, it’s their stage.
