The Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Trailer Has Dropped!

Share

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace villain Darth Maul gets his own animated series. And he doesn’t seem happy about it.

Like many Star Wars casuals, you may have thought that Darth Maul was long dead, having been neatly bisected by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi at the end of The Phantom Menace. But you’d be wrong, buckaroo; Maul survived, showing up across several seasons of The Clone Wars as a recurring villain and then putting in an appearance at the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

So now you know. Anyway, lets take a look at what Dathomir’s favourite son is up to…

What’s the plot?

As the official synopsis tells us:

Set after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this pulpy adventure finds Maul plotting to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire. There, he crosses paths with a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who could be the apprentice he is seeking to aid him in his relentless pursuit for revenge.

Who’s in it?

  • Sam Witwer as Maul, now a former Sith Lord – hence no “Darth” any more.
  • Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, a Twi’lek Jedi who is on the run following Order 66, and who Maul picks as a potential new apprentice.
  • Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, a police detective on Janix.
  • Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots, Lawson’s police droid partner. 2B0T.
  • Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio-Daki.
  • Chris Diamantopoulos as Looti Vario.
  • Charlie Bushnell as Rylee Lawson.
  • Vanessa Marshall as Rook Kast, one of Maul’s Mandalorian allies.
  • David W. Collins as Spybot.
  • A. J. LoCascio as Marrok, a Jedi-hunting Inquisitor.
  • Steve Blum as Icarus.

When’s it out?

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord hits Disney+ April 6. Two episodes will premiere each week, with the final two airing on – when else? – May the 4th.

What’s the vibe?

I mean sure, why not? I dip in and out of Star Wars these days, so I’m not really worried about how it all fits together, but a few eps of the big red lad carving things up sounds like a good time.
