Ringworm’s Human Furnace Sees Community Step Up As Medical Costs Rise

Share

There’s a familiar story playing out again in heavy music, and it’s not a good one.

Ringworm frontman James ‘Human Furnace’ Bulloch is the latest name in hardcore to be hit with mounting medical costs, with a GoFundMe campaign pulling in over $10,000 AUD equivalent in just days as fans and peers scramble to help.

The fundraiser, launched by Hatebreed guitarist Frank Novinec and Integrity’s Dwid Hellion, was originally a modest push, but didn’t stay that way for long (per Metal Sucks).

“James ‘Human Furnace’ Bulloch is a talented tattoo artist and, as many of you know, the singer for Ringworm and Gluttons. Recently, James had to undergo surgery, which has put his life and career on hold. As a result, he is unable to work at the tattoo shop for at least a month, and it will be several months before he can return to performing with his bands. This sudden change has created a lot of uncertainty and stress, both emotionally and financially.

“During this recovery period, the bills don’t stop coming. Medical expenses are adding up, and without his regular income from tattooing and performing, it’s tough to keep up with everyday living costs. We (Frank and Dwid) started this fundraiser to help ease that burden, so James can focus on healing without the added worry of how to pay for essentials.

“Thanks in advance to everyone who supports James during this challenging time. Every bit of help means the world and brings him one step closer to getting back to doing what he does best—creating art and music for the community.”

From $1,800 to five figures in days

The campaign launched with a goal of $1,800, but the response was immediate, within a day, it surged past $5,500, then climbed again to $10,000. By the next morning, the total had hit $15,000, with 169 donations landing at $10,055 at the time of posting.

That kind of jump says a lot about Bulloch’s place in the scene, Ringworm have never been a casual listen. They’ve always been raw, confrontational, and built on grit, that same energy is coming back now in support form.

At the time of writing, donations appear to be paused. Still, the message is clear, Hardcore looks after its own when things get real.
