Puscifer are leaning further into their strange, carefully built mythology, releasing a new animated video for ‘A Public Stoning’ pulled from their latest album ‘Normal Isn’t’.
This isn’t just another clip, it’s a full extension of the band’s expanding Pusciverse, and it seems to be getting deeper, not clearer (per Screamer Magazine).
The video adapts ‘Tales From The Pusciverse #2: The Briefcase’, the second instalment of their comic series, which has already seen its first issues sell out, and If you’ve been paying attention to Puscifer over the years, you’ll know the briefcase isn’t new.
It’s been lurking in the background of visuals and live concepts for years, now, it’s front and centre.
The briefcase mystery continues
Written by Maynard James Keenan, the story digs into one of the band’s longest running questions, just don’t expect clean answers.
“The Briefcase has been part of the Puscifer mythology for years,” Keenan notes. “Everyone wonders what exactly is inside. This issue doesn’t necessarily answer the question… but it moves the story forward.”
That tracks, Puscifer have never been about resolution, it’s more about building a world that feels slightly off kilter, where each piece adds to the puzzle without fully snapping it into place.
Visually, the animation is handled by Raul Araujo and Chris Rubey, bringing the comic’s artwork, led by Marlin Shoop, into motion with the same eerie, tongue in cheek energy that’s become a Puscifer trademark.
Not just a band, a full blown concept
Puscifer have always operated differently to Tool or A Perfect Circle, less rigid and more experimental, where those bands chase precision, Puscifer thrives in ambiguity, blending music, visuals, and narrative into something closer to performance art.
That approach is only getting sharper with ‘Normal Isn’t’, a record that leans heavily into their offbeat identity while still delivering the kind of groove heavy, electronic tinged rock fans expect.
