Wayans Brothers Say ‘White Chicks 2’ Hinges On One Thing

More than 20 years after ‘White Chicks’ became a cult staple, Marlon and Shawn Wayans are floating the idea of a sequel, but it’s not locked in, not even close.

According to the the Wayans brothers, it all comes down to whether people still show up (per Hollywood Reporter), speaking in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Marlon made it clear they’re open to revisiting the film:

“I’ll put it this way: we’re game,” he said. “We want to know if people want to come out and laugh, and [if] they come see Scary Movie, then I definitely…”

Shawn finished the thought: “If this movie does well, a White Chicks 2 can happen.”

So the message is simple, Iif audiences turn up for the new ‘Scary Movie’ instalment, it could greenlight a return to one of the early 2000s’ most recognisable comedies.

Revisiting a cult classic

The original ‘White Chicks’ was released in 2004, following two disgraced FBI agents who go undercover as wealthy socialites, it was chaotic, ridiculous, and somehow stuck around long enough to build a loyal fanbase.

It also came with a cost, Marlon has previously spoken about how brutal the production actually was, especially the physical toll of transforming into the film’s central characters.

“We only got 3 hours every night, so after work, we were still there,” he said, describing the daily grind of filming. “Taking the makeup off, that took an hour.”

The process reportedly involved seven hours in makeup, followed by full production days, not exactly an easy setup to revisit decades later.

What’s next

For now, the focus is on ‘Scary Movie 6’, which lands in cinemas on June 5th and marks the brothers’ return to the franchise after sitting out several entries.

Whether ‘White Chicks 2’ becomes reality depends on how that release lands, there’s clearly interest from the Wayans camp, but they’re not forcing it, if the audience is there, it happens, if not, ‘White Chicks’ stays where it is.
