The term “supergroup” gets thrown around a lot, but T3RMINAL has assembled a lineup that genuinely turns heads
Featuring Tesla bassist Brian Wheat, former Tesla guitarist Tommy Skeoch, ex-W.A.S.P. guitarist Chris Holmes, original Saliva frontman Josey Scott, and Staind drummer Sal Giancarelli in the studio, the project is already moving at a surprising pace (Per Blabbermouth).
According to Scott, the band has already recorded 18 songs while working on a debut album slated for release later this year or early next year.
Speaking with Cassius Morris, Scott credited Wheat as the driving force behind bringing the project together, a friendship that began on festival circuits more than two decades ago eventually evolved into discussions about creating something outside their better known bands.
An easy decision
After Wheat approached Scott about joining a new project featuring Skeoch, the singer quickly signed on:
“He was, like, ‘Man, I love your voice. I love your songwriting. I love your lyrics. I would love for you to be a part of this if you want, if you’d like to do that,'” Scott recalled.
Once the material started flowing, things accelerated rapidly:
“And so he sent me, I think, six songs, and I started to kind of write to those songs and demo some stuff up,” Scott explained. “Then he flew me out to his house in upstate New York, and we just started recording. And, man, like that, before you knew it, I had written nine songs. He had nine songs in all, and we have 18 songs already.”
While fans might expect a collision of Tesla, W.A.S.P. and Saliva sounds, the band insists that’s not what they’re building. Earlier this year, Scott described the music as a surprisingly natural blend of personalities and influences, while Wheat was even more direct:
“I’ll tell you what it doesn’t sound like,” Wheat said. “It doesn’t sound like TESLA. It doesn’t sound like W.A.S.P… I will say it’s got a modern rock sound to it.“
That’s perhaps the most intriguing part of T3RMINAL, rather than leaning on nostalgia, the musicians appear focused on creating something entirely new from decades of combined experience.
With 18 songs reportedly already in the can, fans may not have to wait too much longer to hear what happens when these very different corners of hard rock and metal meet in the same room.
