A previously unheard recording from the late Wayne Static has officially surfaced online, giving fans the chance to hear the original version of “Hollow” years after the song was reworked and released by Static-X.
The newly unveiled Wayne Static recording predates the version that appeared as the lead single from Project: Regeneration Vol. 1 in 2020, that album was assembled using unfinished and unreleased material Wayne Static left behind before his death in 2014, with the surviving members of Static-X completing and reimagining several tracks.
The original recording has been released by filmmaker Matt Zane, who is currently producing an unauthorised documentary about the final years of Wayne Static and his late wife, Tera Wray. The project has already generated significant controversy, with both the band’s camp and the estates of Wayne and Tera publicly objecting to the documentary. Despite that opposition, Zane has maintained he intends to release the film, claiming it aligns with the couple’s wishes (per The PRP).

Announcing the release of the original “Hollow”, Zane said the recording challenges previous claims that the song had been incomplete before it was reworked for Project: Regeneration Vol. 1 (below).
“Let’s be honest, there was no reason to pull the music off this track and change it. But by doing so they get some of the publishing. Personally, I would have left it as Wayne intended.”
According to Zane, the newly discovered recording suggests the track had already been completed before Static-X revisited it for the 2020 release.
Fans can now stream the original version on YouTube or download it free of charge, offering a rare glimpse into Wayne Static’s original creative vision and allowing listeners to compare it directly with the officially released version.

Zane also confirmed that his documentary focusing on Wayne Static and Tera Wray is expected to be released as a free streaming title in early 2027.
While debate surrounding the film continues, the appearance of Wayne’s original “Hollow” recording is certain to reignite discussion among fans over the legacy of Project: Regeneration and how the iconic frontman’s final recordings have been preserved since his passing.
