Mysterious projections featuring imagery connected to both bands have appeared in Brisbane.
Something is happening in Brisbane.
Images associated with System of a Down and Faith No More have been projected onto a building in the city, fuelling speculation that the two bands are preparing to announce Australian shows.
Wall of Sound shared footage of the projections after receiving what founder Paul “Browny” Brown described as a tip-off. One image shows the red hand associated with System of a Down’s 1998 self-titled debut, while the other uses imagery linked to Faith No More’s first album, We Care a Lot.
The accompanying post offered no dates, venues or promoter details. It did, however, use Faith No More’s “Epic” as its soundtrack.
That is a fairly specific collection of clues.
System of a Down have not toured Australia since headlining Soundwave in 2012. Their final show of that Australian run took place in Perth, meaning a 2027 return would end a roughly 15-year absence.
Faith No More last performed in Australia as part of Soundwave 2015, closing their local run at Brisbane Showgrounds on March 1.
Unlike System of a Down, Faith No More have already placed Australia inside their immediate touring plans.
Bassist Bill Gould recently confirmed that the band intends to return to the stage in 2027, naming Australia alongside Europe, South America and the United States. Gould indicated that performances could begin around January or February.
The connection between the two bands goes beyond the Brisbane projections.
Faith No More recently signed a long-term global touring agreement with Brazilian live-entertainment company 30e. System of a Down entered a similar partnership with the company earlier this year after working with it on a major South American stadium run.
The bands have also been booked together before. System of a Down and Faith No More were due to share several large US bills during the pandemic-disrupted 2020 and 2021 touring cycle, although Faith No More ultimately withdrew from the rescheduled dates.
There is currently no official Australian announcement from either band. System of a Down’s official tour page lists no Australian dates, while Ticketmaster Australia presently shows no upcoming Faith No More concerts.
For now, the exact format remains unclear. It could be a joint arena tour, a stadium package or a larger touring festival featuring both bands.
But projecting two unmistakable pieces of band imagery onto the same Brisbane building after alerting local music media is not particularly subtle.
An announcement appears close.
