BLUNT.news is the public-interest journalism arm of BLUNT Magazine.

Launched by BLUNT Magazine in August 2026, BLUNT.news exists to investigate culturally important stories that deserve deeper reporting, particularly stories that are already affecting communities but have been overlooked, simplified or left without a strong factual record.

BLUNT Magazine remains the broader culture publication, covering music, film, games and the people, ideas and scenes shaping contemporary culture.

BLUNT.news has a narrower job: investigate, verify, document and follow important stories through.

Journalism that shows its working

BLUNT.news reporting is built around evidence.

Major investigations distinguish between verified facts, claims made by subjects, documentary evidence, firsthand reporting, unanswered questions and responses from the people and organisations involved.

Where important questions remain unresolved, BLUNT.news says so.

Where new evidence or a substantive response arrives after publication, the record can be updated with a visible timestamp rather than quietly rewriting what was previously known.

Part of BLUNT Magazine

BLUNT.news is published by BLUNT Magazine and operates as part of the wider BLUNT network.

The two publications share a publisher identity, editorial standards and cultural perspective, but serve different purposes.

BLUNT Magazine reports, reviews, interviews and documents culture.

BLUNT.news investigates stories where the public record itself needs closer examination.

The first major BLUNT.news investigation, What Happened to Providoor?, examined the food-delivery company that became a lockdown phenomenon, collapsed in 2023 and later relaunched under new ownership. The investigation tested public claims around its turnaround, staffing and customer-review history against the underlying record.

Community-powered reporting

BLUNT.news is designed to keep reporting after publication.

Readers who were part of a story can provide firsthand context, documents, corrections or new evidence. Information may be independently verified before it is added to the public record.

The aim is not to manufacture controversy. It is to make culturally important public records more complete, more transparent and more useful.

The Providoor Files

BLUNT.news launched with an investigation into Providoor and the business claims being built around its turnaround.

  • Reviews: BLUNT matched 1,196 reviews across Reviews.io and a captured company-level Okendo dataset. The matched set contained none of Reviews.io’s one- or two-star reviews while containing almost all of its four- and five-star reviews.
  • The 4.6 claim: Providoor promoted 1,530 reviews averaging 4.6 stars. BLUNT could not reproduce that average from the 1,500 Reviews.io records analysed. The page carrying the claim later began permanently redirecting to an older article.
  • Brag Media: ASIC records showed a Girgis-linked vehicle held approximately 10% of The Brag Media. BLUNT’s firsthand reporting established that A$119,198 of the A$8.05 million settlement was directed to that vehicle.
