Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Announces ‘In My Darkest Hour’ Book Tour

Dave Mustaine is opening another chapter in the Megadeth farewell, announcing a US book tour behind his deeply personal new memoir ‘In My Darkest Hour’.

The Megadeth frontman will release In My Darkest Hour next Tuesday (September 8th), before immediately hitting the road for three events across New York, Boston and Manassas.

Written with Joe Layden, the memoir centres on Mustaine’s battle with cancer and the period in which treatment, family and music became brutally intertwined.

Rather than functioning as another chronological retelling of four decades of Megadeth, In My Darkest Hour zeroes in on Mustaine confronting his own mortality while still trying to create.

During his treatment, Mustaine would reportedly move between radiation and chemotherapy appointments and lengthy recording sessions for Megadeth’s 2022 album The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!.

The book also explores how his diagnosis changed his relationship with his family, faith, vulnerability and asking others for help.

Dave Mustaine Is Taking The Story On The Road

The three date book tour begins at New York’s Kaufman Music Center on publication day, where Mustaine will appear in conversation with Rolling Stone writer Kory Grow before taking audience questions.

Boston and Manassas appearances follow, timed around Megadeth’s shows with Iron Maiden on the latter’s Run For Your Lives World Tour.

Wednesday, September 9th – Boston, MA, Parkside Bookshop

Mustaine Is Already Thinking About The End

The memoir arrives at an unusually reflective point in Mustaine’s career.

Megadeth are currently undertaking their multi year farewell after their self-titled final album gave the thrash veterans their first-ever US Billboard 200 No. 1.

Speaking exclusively with us recently, Mustaine explained that ending Megadeth while the band was still operating at full force was important to him.

‘Well, I wanted to go out on top, and I don’t think we can go out any more on top than this.’

His decision also carries a physical reality, with Mustaine revealing an ongoing problem with his hand is progressively affecting his ability to play.

That makes Megadeth’s November Australian return alongside Iron Maiden considerably heavier than another lap around the country.
