Tom Morello has offered up a brief instrumental snippet of his next single ‘Unconquered’, which will serve as his debut collaboration with Irish rap stars Kneecap.
The track is part of his upcoming solo album Everyone Gets Everything They Want, which will serve as his fifth solo album under his own name and ninth overall including his releases under the moniker of The Nightwatchman. It will be released as a single on Friday, September 25th – the same day that the album comes out.
The clip shared to Morello’s social media accounts sees the guitarist entering the frame of a shot with Kneecap’s logo projected behind him. Wearing a tshirt with the phrase “our revenge will be the laughter of our children,” Morello raises a fist as the clip cuts to black – just before the main instrumental kicks in. ‘Unconquered’ is one of several collaborative tracks slated to appear on Everyone Gets Everything They Want. Others slated to appear on the album include System Of A Down frontman and longtime collaborator Serj Tankian, Beartooth and even Morello’s own teenage son, Roman.
A team-up between Morello and Kneecap has been on the cards for over a year, after the former Rage Against the Machine guitarist sang the band’s praises during an interview on The Strombo Show. He drew a direct parallel between them and the band with which he rose to prominence in the 1990s, describing the Belfast trio as “clearly the Rage Against The Machine of now”.
“What they’re doing in their art is what people could probably stand to do more in their lives: to really speak truth to power,” he said. “Kneecap are not terrorists. What is terroristic is 20,000 dead Palestinian children. That’s the story.”
Morello is slated to appear on Big Noter‘s debut album Songs in the Key of Wrestling next week (September 18th), playing guitar on the closing track ‘What’s the Matter with Adam’. Kneecap, meanwhile, recently released their third studio album Fenian in May.
Everyone Gets Everything They Want is out September 25th via Mom+Pop; it can be pre-saved and pre-ordered here.
