Dave Grohl got to live out a childhood obsession on the final night of AC/DC’s Power Up tour.
The Foo Fighters frontman joined the Australian rock legends for “Highway To Hell” at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on October 2nd, walking onstage with a guitar midway through AC/DC’s set.
Brian Johnson told the crowd the guest spot had come at Grohl’s request (per NME).
“Hey everybody, we got something to tell you. You better listen up close now,” Johnson said. “A very good friend of ours asked us today if he could come up and join us for ‘Highway To Hell’. And we said, ‘Yes Dave, you can.’”
Grohl then played guitar and added backing vocals alongside Johnson, Angus Young and the rest of the band.

A special moment for Grohl
The cameo landed particularly well because Grohl had spent part of Foo Fighters’ own opening set explaining exactly what AC/DC meant to him.
“When I was 11 years old and I went to a midnight movie, and I saw the Let There Be Rock movie in the F***ing movie theatre, at 11 years old, I didn’t know that rock’n’roll could be like that,” he told the crowd.
“I didn’t know that rock’n’roll was sweat and blood and F***ing tears and every ounce of energy you had.”
That experience, Grohl said, effectively set the course for the rest of his life.
“I saw that movie, I was 11 years old, I said, ‘I want to do that for the rest of my F***ing life.’ So here we are… I’m going to live my childhood dream again, tonight.”
Foo Fighters had already crossed paths with AC/DC on the tour in St. Louis on September 8th, when they stepped in for The Pretty Reckless as support.
The MetLife show made it twice in less than a month — and gave Grohl the chance to go one step further.
The New Jersey date also brought AC/DC’s two-year Power Up tour to a close, after the run began in Germany in May 2024.
As the night ended, Johnson stopped short of calling it a final goodbye.
“We hope we’ll see you again,” he told the crowd.
