‘Flower in a Hurricane’ brings two Australian favourites into Rockstar’s soundtrack, alongside a newly announced metal radio station.
Justice, Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard on the same track? Of course it’s for Grand Theft Auto VI. This ridiculous line-up has teamed up on the one track, ‘Flower in a Hurricane’.
And yet, somehow that’s only part of the news. Hold onto your flat brims: Justice are scoring the whole game, too.
Rockstar confirmed the collaboration in its launch-trailer announcement, with the song making its debut in the trailer. The standalone single is out now and will feature on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, arriving on 19 November with 34 original tracks.
For a series whose identity is bound up with what comes out of the car stereo, there’s some history to live up to. Back in 2002, Rockstar and Sony gave Grand Theft Auto: Vice City a seven-album soundtrack release, with each album recreating an individual station through its music, DJs, jingles and commercials. The radio dial was a world within the world.
Justice’s scoring role carries its own lineage. GTA V’s original score brought together Tangerine Dream, Woody Jackson, The Alchemist and Oh No. Now another electronic act gets to help shape the sound of Rockstar’s sprawling criminal universe.
There’s an existing connection within the new collaboration, too. Tame Impala previously featured on ‘One Night/All Night’ and ‘Neverender’ from Justice’s 2024 album Hyperdrama. ‘Flower in a Hurricane’ expands that partnership to include SZA and King Gizzard.
Meanwhile, Rockstar’s radio reveal includes a familiar name: Flash FM, returning to Vice City with hosts Robyn and Alex.
For those heading straight for the heavier end of the dial, The Chamber promises “crushing metal”, hosted by DJ Kerry and DJ Tom. Rockstar describes the overall offering as its biggest and most varied selection of in-game radio and podcasts yet.
The 34-track album, Justice’s original score and the radio programming are distinct parts of that musical world, with further details about an official score album still to come.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Until then, ‘Flower in a Hurricane’ offers the first taste of what Justice and their collaborators are bringing to Vice City.
