Mustaine has named the acts he wants on Megadeth’s next farewell-tour run, ahead of November’s Australian shows with Iron Maiden.
Dave Mustaine has revealed plans to take Anthrax and Kerry King’s solo band on the next run of Megadeth’s farewell tour. Apparently, a degenerative hand condition and looming retirement still leave plenty of room for a thoroughly tinnitus-inducing amount of thrash.
Speaking on the 15 October episode of SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, Mustaine discussed bringing friends along for Megadeth’s final touring cycle.
“Anthrax and Kerry King are going out with us on the next run,” he said, according to Blabbermouth’s transcription.
Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer’s founding guitarist on one bill is the sort of proposition that makes an otherwise sensible adult rearrange their annual and personal leave and wonder how long they can book a babysitter for before the neighbours start to notice.
Mustaine didn’t specify dates or territories in the reported comments, so hold the flight bookings for now.
There’s history behind that guest list, too. Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer toured North America together in 2010, with the original announcement preserved on Megadeth’s website. That run featured full performances of Rust In Peace and Seasons In The Abyss. King would return to the company of familiar touring partners, this time fronting his own outfit.
Mustaine also mentioned heading to Europe with Black Label Society and Testament. Disappointingly for your credit card, that package already has dates attached: Megadeth announced the 24-show Breakout: Hibernation Of The Nations tour in August, starting in Belfast on 9 March 2027 and finishing in Lisbon on 13 April.
As BLUNT previously reported, before those European shows, Megadeth will visit New Zealand and Australia with Iron Maiden.
Maiden’s current itinerary lists Auckland on 7 and 8 November, followed by Adelaide on 11 November, Melbourne on 13 November, Sydney on 15 November and Brisbane on 18 and 19 November.
Anthrax and Kerry King have not been announced for those Australian concerts. But thankfully, Megadeth opening for Iron Maiden is already a fairly persuasive reason to leave the house. As for where the Megadeth, Anthrax and Kerry King bill will land, we’re still waiting on details. Your babysitter has a temporary reprieve.
