Nine Years Old, First Metal Show: Finn Takes On Lorna Shore In Brisbane

Share

Brandon Miller didn’t mess around when it came to his nine year old son Finn’s first metal show.

Last night (Friday, October 23rd), he took him to Brisbane’s Riverstage to see Lorna Shore, with Whitechapel and The Acacia Strain also on the bill, not exactly easing him into things.

And Finn had plenty to say about it afterwards.

The flames were a favourite. The volume was another story. It was much louder than he’d expected, and powerful enough that he could feel the music vibrating through his entire body.

He was also pretty stoked that his dad had managed to get him so close to the stage.

That’s a first metal show right there. Forget worrying about the mix or whether a particular breakdown sounded better on record. When you’re nine, you’ve got fire shooting up in front of you, music shaking your body and your dad standing alongside you.

Lorna Shore were wrapping up the Australian leg of their 2026 headline tour, and the Brisbane set certainly wasn’t short on material.

Opening with ‘Oblivion’, the band tore through ‘Unbreakable’, ‘War Machine’ and ‘In Darkness’, alongside tracks including ‘Glenwood’ and ‘Prison of Flesh’. The closing stretch brought all three parts of the ‘Pain Remains’ trilogy before ‘To the Hellfire’ finished things off.

Speaking with us ahead of the tour, frontman Will Ramos touched on the emotion behind the band’s increasingly ambitious music.

“Heavy metal music isn’t just intense angry. It can also be intense sad”.

Ramos also discussed younger listeners discovering extreme metal through Lorna Shore, explaining that the band would continue making music that excited its five members rather than changing its sound to reach a particular audience.

Finn probably wasn’t thinking about any of that last night.

He was too busy taking in the flames, the noise and the experience of seeing one of deathcore’s biggest names with his dad.

Lorna Shore now head across the Tasman for three New Zealand dates with The Acacia Strain and Organectomy.

As for Finn, he’s already got a pretty impressive answer when someone asks about his first metal show.

And Brandon? Good luck topping that one.
