Queens of the Stone Age have released a lyric video for ‘Run Away From The Mob’, a song Josh Homme spent years trying to finish, ahead of their new album and December Australian tour.
The track closes Perfecth, the band’s ninth studio album, out this Friday, October 30th via Matador Records. Its lyric video arrived earlier today, with the song starting quietly before the drums and guitars push forward in its final stretch.
Dave Grohl recorded the drums way back in 2013, but Homme couldn’t find the right words to finish the track, iIn a recent interview with SPIN, he explained that the music was already recorded; the lyric and vocal melody took much longer.
The lyric eventually became a message from a father to his son. In the statement accompanying the new video, Homme said:
“It’s a letter, a last one, addressed to an oldest son — ‘if you’re reading this, everything went wrong, and here’s what you have to do’. The end is the sound of a father standing behind his son.”
The new album also includes ‘Easy Street’, ‘Insignificant Other’ and ‘Where The Goth Girls At?’. It follows 2023’s In Times New Roman….
