Magic: The Gathering Reveals New Cards With Puppet-Filled Collab Video From The Jim Henson Company

Magic: The Gathering has debuted a new trailer made with ‘The Muppets’ creative force, The Jim Henson Company, to help promote its upcoming new series of cards: Lorwyn Eclipsed.

Magic: The Gathering has kicked off 2026 with an all-new collaborative video with Jim Henson Company, bringing their iconic blend of music and puppets to the card game.

The video, titled The Ballad of Squen and Cragg, was posted on YouTube to promote the strategy game’s upcoming Lorwyn Eclipsed card series, set to release on January 23rd.

The whimsy-filled video depicts the titular pair of goblins singing about their respective dark and light-themed homes in classic Muppets fashion.

If you’re a fan of the 80s classic The Dark Crystal, and forever mourn the Netflix reboot getting cancelled, then perhaps this video will scratch that itch.

In recent years, Magic: The Gathering owners Wizards of the Coast have committed to a series of collaborative releases. Just last year, its Final Fantasy set would earn over $200 million USD ($303,493,000 AUD) in a single day. The company would follow the release with a Spider-Man and Avatar: The Last Airbender set, which would also prove successful; however, it would leave longtime fans worried that the card game was shifting toward a Fortnite-style strategy.

While 2026 is also set to feature collaborations with Marvel Superheroes and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the recent video with Jim Henson Studios cements Wizards of the Coast’s commitment to expanding its series lore and universe with new releases like Lorwyn Eclipsed.

Whether this video is also a test of a potential The Muppets collaboration in the future remains to be seen. Considering the series has worked with Hatsune Miku and My Little Pony, anything seems fair play at this point.

The Lorwyn Eclipsed series is set to release on January 23, with new commander decks, booster packs, a new “Pick-Two” draft night kit and more. If you’d like to get your hands on one, packs will be available at your local card game store or for purchase online through Wizard of the Coasts’ website.
