I Killed the Prom Queen Are Coming Back

Share

After nearly a decade of silence, Australian metal band I Killed the Prom Queen are finally waking up.

The long-dormant Adelaide metalcore outfit, who haven’t been active since 2015, were teasing something. Last September, they posted a cryptic Instagram reel featuring nothing but their old logo and the Roman numerals MMXXV—2025. At the time, it was unclear if it meant anything more than nostalgia bait.

Last night though, they followed it all up with a second teaser. Same logo, this time set to a wave of heavy guitar and breakdowns. The caption: “Another rumour started…” That’s it. It wasn’t an official statement. It wasn’t a press release. Just noise—and just enough to get everyone’s attention.

The reel also tags several individuals not publicly associated with the band before, hinting that new blood may be involved if something was indeed coming.

The band have since announced a full- scale Australian tour to mark the 25th anniversary of the band. The tour which is due to run from October 1 will see the band head to Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle. The lineup will also include original members like Jona Weinhofen or Jamie Hope.

Since going quiet, the band’s legacy has remained complicated. Bassist Sean Kennedy’s passing in 2021 shook the heavy scene, and earlier controversies involving ex-vocalist Michael Crafter left lasting tension over any potential comeback. Whether this teaser is a full-scale return, a one-off, or a studio project remains to be seen.

I Killed the Prom Queen are deliberately stoked the curiosity with 2025 as the target. Their return marks a decade since their last run and 20 years since When Goodbye Means Forever… first dropped.

The band that helped define Australian metalcore clearly have something left to say. Let’s just all hope that it’s something worthwhile.
