John Lydon Says He’ll Never Rejoin “Woke” Sex Pistols After “Dirty Deeds”

John Lydon has once again shut down the idea of ever rejoining the Sex Pistols. This time though, he’s blaming “dirty deeds” and what he calls “Walt Disney woke expectations.”

In a new interview with PA, Lydon said: “Never, not after what I consider their dirty deeds. Let them wallow in Walt Disney woke expectations… they’ve killed the content, or done their best to.” He added, “As far as I am concerned, I am the Pistols, and they’re not.”

Lydon’s latest comments follow his long-running feud with his former bandmates over the Pistol series, which aired via Disney+ in 2022. He took guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook to court in an attempt to block the use of Sex Pistols songs in the show. He later lost.

Since then, the rest of the band have been back on the road with Frank Carter fronting a reformed lineup—minus Lydon. Last year’s Teenage Cancer Trust gigs and UK tour drew big crowds, and they’ve since announced festival slots and international dates, including an upcoming Australian tour in April.

Lydon, meanwhile, has kept firing from a distance. In addition to calling the reunion “karaoke,” he’s now taken aim at Carter and former fill-in Billy Idol: “That’s a clown’s circus at work.”

As for what’s next for the Pistols, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock and Paul Cook show no signs of slowing down. Earlier this year, Blunt Magazine caught up with the band to talk about their current run of shows and the next chapter. You can read that interview here.

While Lydon might no longer have taste for the anarchy, the rest of the band are keeping the songs alive with or without him
