Sleep Token’s II And Anthrax Members Join Surprise Supergroup At Black Sabbath’s Final Show

Share

Black Sabbath’s Back To The Beginning show in Birmingham was always going to be massive, but no one expected a surprise supergroup moment to tear through the middle of the day.

Among the most talked about moments? Sleep Token’s masked enigma II and members of Anthrax joining forces in a one off onstage collaboration that’s already racking up views. Sabbath’s final show was never going to be a quiet send off, but this felt like metal’s past and present shaking hands in real time.

As for the Anthrax camp, they brought that unmistakable East Coast bite, rounding out a line up that tore through a heavy hitting Black Sabbath cover with zero warning and maximum impac

The show itself was a full circle farewell for the genre’s originators. Held at Villa Park, Back To The Beginning brought together Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward one last time, supported by a stacked bill including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Judas Priest and more.

Unexpected Crossover

It was these unexpected crossovers though, like Sleep Token’s II and Anthrax colliding onstage, that reminded everyone why Black Sabbath mattered. This wasn’t just a tribute. It was more like a celebration of the legacy that Sabbath have built over their 56 year career!

One era ended, but another cracked wide open. Black Sabbath may have played their final show, but the torch has well and truly been passed on. Loud, proud and in this case a little unexpected.
