Slipknot have barely given fans time to process ‘Arsenal’ before kicking off another mystery campaign, this time pointing towards September 28th.
Something is happening in the Slipknot camp next week.
Cryptic posters bearing the band’s familiar Tribal S have started appearing in cities around the world, directing fans towards a new website at unlock.slipknot1.com (per Lamb Goat).
Once fans sign up through the site, they’re greeted by Slipknot’s logo engulfed in flames alongside the numbers “09” and “28”, seemingly pointing towards an announcement arriving on September 28th.
Posters connected to the campaign have now been spotted across multiple international markets, including cities in North America, South America and the UK.
Speculation
Exactly what Slipknot are preparing to announce remains unknown, although the locations involved have inevitably sparked speculation that a new run of live dates could be on the way. For now, however, there has been no official confirmation that the September 28th reveal is tour related.
Whatever it is, the timing continues an unusually busy few weeks for the Iowa metal giants.
Earlier this month, Slipknot surprise released new single ‘Arsenal’, their first new music featuring drummer Eloy Casagrande and the first release through the band’s own (sic)est Records imprint.
Slipknot ‘Arsenal’ video
Guitarist Jim Root has since confirmed that ‘Arsenal’ is a standalone track and will not appear on Slipknot’s forthcoming eighth studio album, which the band have been recording with producer Matt Wallace.
The latest teaser also arrives immediately after M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan offered another glimpse into the band’s current transition.
As reported yesterday, Crahan revealed that Slipknot deliberately avoided properly appearing in the ‘Arsenal’ music video because their next masks and outfits have not yet been finalised.
“This is all supposed to be a little confusing and a little bewildering because there’s so much more that’s gonna be focused in the future,” Crahan explained.
With ‘Arsenal’, a new album taking shape and now a global mystery campaign unfolding almost simultaneously, that future appears to be getting closer.
We should find out exactly what Slipknot have been building towards on September 28th.
