Twelve Foot Ninja Are Returning With New Members And Founding Member Steve MacKay

Twelve Foot Ninja are gearing up for a return, one year after disbanding. The new group will feature founding guitarist Steve “Stevic” MacKay and a new lineup.

The Aussie metal band Twelve Foot Ninja are set to return with a brand new EP on the way.

The announcement came from the band’s official Facebook page, penned by lead guitarist and founder Steve “Stevic” MacKay.

In the post, the guitarist explained that the Twelve Foot Ninja most of us know is over: “The former members were not involved in this and have chosen not to be. I respect their contributions and will never try to erase or replace them,” explained MacKay.

“However, I started this weird ADHD genre-bending metal project almost 18 years ago; the compositional approach, music production, comics, humour, and music videos are tethered to my creative identity,” he shared.

“This is not a reboot, recast or tribute – it’s just a continuation of what I started predicated on the notion that fans would prefer something over complete non-existence. I make stuff because I love it and what I make sounds and looks like Twelve Foot Ninja – because it is. That’s why I’ve spent the past 2 years meticulously dismantling logical incoherence. “If you want to stick with me, pull up a pue and help yourself to a silly sausage – I’ve got farkin’ heaps of em!”

Twelve Foot Ninja officially disbanded last year with the release of their acoustic album Mutant Dreams and Face Transplants: An Acoustic Experience. The band revealed in a final statement (at the time) their reasoning for disbanding was due to “The current industry dynamics, coupled with the extensive time required to produce our style of music, make it challenging to sustain careers without compromising our well-being or artistic integrity.”

Well, flash forward to a year later, and it seems that MacKay has navigated a way forward to ensure Twelve Foot Ninja can live on, in some shape or form.

The band has already entered controversy by using AI art in the announcement, which MacKay has responded to in the same Facebook post, justifying its use. You can read his full reply here.
