Blunt Magazine is proud to announce the appointment of Emily Spindler as our new Editor.
A lifelong reader and fan of BLUNT, Emily grew up thumbing through the pages of the mag and still keeps her old issues close, a testament to the lasting impact of Australia’s loudest alternative voice. Now, she takes the reins to help shape its future.
Based in Melbourne, Emily has spent the past five years embedded in the world of games journalism, with bylines at KotakuAustralia and GamesHub, where she carved out a reputation for sharp writing and a genuine connection to the communities she covered. But her other first love has always been heavy music, from Nu metal and metalcore to the emo classics of the 2000s.
She’s been part of the furniture in Melbourne’s alternative scene for years, and she brings that same energy to BLUNT, with a mission to highlight the stories of local acts, underground movements, and the fans who fuel it all.
“Blunt was the magazine that made me feel seen growing up. It gave a voice to the music and subcultures I loved when no one else did,” Emily says. “Taking on the role of editor feels surreal in the best way. I’m here to champion the bands that raised us, the ones pushing boundaries now, and the communities that live and breathe this scene. This is more than music coverage, it’s storytelling from the pit, for the pit.”

With Emily at the helm, BLUNT is doubling down on what it does best, raw and real coverage of the bands that matter, and the culture that surrounds them.
