Brian Burkheiser Returns With First New SCATTERBRAIN Release, A Dark, Unfiltered Cover That Marks A Fresh Start

Share

Brian Burkheiser has finally broken his silence, after more than a year of stalled releases, false starts, and a brutal stretch of personal upheaval, the former I Prevail co vocalist has resurfaced with a new SCATTERBRAIN track.

Look What You Made Me Do is a a shadow soaked, cinematic cover that drags every ghost into the spotlight, fans have been waiting for this moment since July last year, when SCATTERBRAIN first exploded onto the scene.

With raw, manic reels and brutally honest studio snippets, Burkheiser framed the whole project perfectly, a space to tell the stories he couldn’t tell in his old world.

Then everything went quiet, but now finally that new music is here.

A message straight from Brian

Before dropping the song, Burkheiser addressed fans directly with the following message:

“To my fans:
This year forced me to pivot in ways I never expected, and it tested me more than I can explain. But through it all, your support has meant everything.
I’m excited to finally share a song with you. I chose this cover because it truly resonates with me and serves as a nod to what first sparked my career.
I’m still working toward the day I can release my original music, but for now, I’m grateful to have found a way to put a piece of art into the world.”

The visuals

The SCATTERBRAIN version hits like a short horror film with dark palette, sharp edits and heavy symbolism.

Director Ben Proulx and cinematographer Andrew DiLeo twist the Taylor Swift classic into something feverish and unsettling, it’s theatrical, violent and a little left field.

The road back

Since SCATTERBRAIN’s announcement, Burkheiser had been unable to release a single note thanks to circumstances behind the scenes.

The drought made today’s drop feel like a breakthrough, a reminder that he’s still fighting through it, still making art on his own terms, and still building toward the two full length SCATTERBRAIN albums he originally teased.
