Hollow Knight: Silksong’s composer, Christopher Larkin, has announced the official release date for the game’s soundtrack on social media.
After eight years of waiting, Hollow Knight: Silksong is officially releasing tomorrow on all platforms.
The award-winning platformer game was beloved for its challenging game design, sprawling lived-in world, and, of course, its brooding soundtrack composed by Australia’s own Christopher Larkin.
Well, Larkin has returned for the game’s sequel and is promising an equally impressive soundtrack. Developers Team Cherry confirmed on their Kickstarter years ago that Larkin would return to “bring melancholy melodies, symphonic strings and heart-thumping, soul-strumming boss themes to Hornet’s adventure.”
Today, Larkin has officially confirmed when fans can listen to the soundtrack for Hollow Knight: Silksong in full.
The composer announced on X that the album will be available tomorrow (September 4) via Bandcamp, with “other music platforms to follow”.
Fans will be able to purchase the soundtrack for $11.99 USD ($18.39 AUD) on Steam, GOG and Bandcamp day one of the game’s release.
If you haven’t listened already, you can stream the tracks ‘Lace’ and ‘Bonebottom’ from the upcoming game on Bandcamp here.
Holloy Knight: Silksong was officially announced in February 2019 and appeared at Nintendo’s E3 booth later that year. However, the game would go radio silent on updates afterwards. It wasn’t until 2023 that Team Cherry announced a 2023 release date on social media; however, the game was eventually delayed indefinitely again.
This would stir the fanbase into a frenzy, who would begin to mythologise the game. Fans had spent so long praying that any gaming showcase would finally reveal more info about Silksong. So long, in fact, that many believed it was never going to be released.
It wasn’t until August 22 this year that Silksong would officially receive its release date of September 4.
Following the official announcement of the game, Team Cherry went on to give an exclusive interview with Bloomberg’s game reporter Jason Schrier. In the interview, Team Cherry Co-Founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen explained that the development period was really as tumultuous as initially thought. The reason for such a long development cycle was that the team was having fun being creative and constantly implementing new ideas for the game.
“Launching it is obviously quite exciting,” Pellen said. “What comes after for us is equally as exciting.”
“The most interesting thing now is what can we add to it next,” Gibson said. “We got a plan. Admittedly, some of the plans for that stuff are kind of ambitious as well, but hopefully we can achieve some of it.”
Hollow Knight: Silksong releases on September 4, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S | X, Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, Steam, GOG and Humble Bundle and will cost $29.50 AUD.
