Less Than Jake have released ‘Another Hostage Situation’, a previously-unreleased song that was recorded in the sessions for their 2024 EP Uncharted but was ultimately left off.
In a statement regarding the unearthed track, guitarist and co-lead vocalist Chris DeMakes explained that it was written about his two children. “At the time I wrote it, they were seven and six years old respectively,” he said.
“It was inspired by morning time with them before being sent off to school. Some days it was as smooth as silk, and other days it was a full blown thunderstorm. The joys of parenting little ones.
“The ‘hostage’ was me, and the ‘situation’ was the chaos of that particular morning. My kids are amazing, and the lyrics are as tongue in cheek as you can get.”
The release of ‘Another Hostage Situation’ arrives ahead of Less Than Jake’s return to Australia this coming November. The Circus Down Under tour will see the Gainesville ska-punks undertake a run of capital cities with two longtime touring friends from the US.
The Aquabats will serve as main support, returning for the first time in 11 years, while the tour will be opened by The Suicide Machines, returning less than two years after their debut headlining tour.
