Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Unveils A Brand New Giant Critter

Share

Something big and scary is heading our way in season two of Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters. Which is what you’d expect, but still…

I dig Legendary’s MonsterVerse flicks a lot. Sure, they’re not the most prestigious mega-budget franchise on the block, but they speak to a universal truth – several in fact. People will always show up for Godzilla (except for that time in 1998), they’ll always show up for King Kong, and they 100% will show up for both of them at once, whether they’re kicking the crap out of each other or some other towering titan of terror. That’s just facts.

But I also dig the wired conspiratorial angle the series pursues, with shadowy monster-monitoring organisation Monarch hovering in the background – and sometimes in the foreground, as in Apple TV‘s hugely enjoyable Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters, which just dropped a teaser for its upcoming second season. And much to my joy, they’re teasing a brand new monster dubbed Titan X – and he’s a big ‘un, make no mistake. Check it out:

What’s the plot?

We’ve got a nice, chunky official synopsis for once, so I’m gonna let the good PR drones at Apple do the heavy lifting here:

Season one of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings looking to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.

Season two will pick up with the fate of Monarch — and the world — hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe — all with the threat of a titan event on the horizon.

Who’s in it?

  • Anna Sawai as Cate Randa, a San Francisco teacher with PTSD whose search for her missing father leads her into Monarch’s shadowy world.
  • Kiersey Clemons as May Olowe-Hewitt, a former employee of Applied Experimental Technologies living in hiding in Japan.
  • Ren Watabe as Kentaro Randa: An artist and Cate’s half-brother, which came as a shock to both of them.
  • Mari Yamamoto as Keiko, a scientist investigating monsters in the ’50s.
  • Anders Holm as Bill Randa, cryptozoologist and Monarch lifer who grows up to be John Goodman.
  • John Goodman as an older Bill Randa, just like we said.
  • Joe Tippett as Tim, a Monarch office worker trying to track down some missing files.
  • Wyatt and Kurt Russell as Lee Shaw: A former U.S. Army colonel, with Wyatt playing him the ’50s and Kurt as the older model.
  • Elisa Lasowski as Michelle Duvall, a skilled Monarch operative partnered with Tim.

When’s it out?

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters season 2 hits Apple TV on February 27.

What’s the vibe?

Look, I’m sold.
