Gordon was sentenced to a three-year community corrections order and 300 hours of community service after pleading guilty to sexual intercourse with a person aged between 14 and 16.
“`The brother of Parkway Drive drummer Ben Gordon has avoided jail after being sentenced over a child sex offence in northern NSW.
Jed Daniel Gordon, 45, was sentenced in Byron Bay Local Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to sexual intercourse with a person aged between 14 and 16 between 2002 and 2003.
Gordon was handed a three-year community corrections order, ordered to complete 300 hours of community service, and placed on the child protection register.
The offence occurred in 2003.
The sentencing has already triggered renewed backlash online, with many fans expressing anger that Gordon avoided prison time given the nature of the offence.
Earlier this year, Parkway Drive publicly distanced themselves from Gordon after details of the case became public, stating they immediately severed ties with him once they became aware of the offence.
“We condemn abuse and exploitation in all forms,” the band said at the time.
The controversy has hung heavily over parts of the Australian heavy music scene for months, not because Parkway Drive themselves were accused of wrongdoing, but because Gordon had long been publicly associated with one of the country’s most internationally recognised heavy bands.
The case also reignited wider conversations around accountability within touring culture, backstage environments, and how the music industry responds when people connected to major artists face criminal allegations or convictions.
Parkway Drive themselves have not been accused of any criminal conduct in relation to the matter.
Still, in a scene as tight-knit and community-driven as Australian heavy music, the fallout surrounding someone so closely connected to Parkway Drive was always going to resonate far beyond a courtroom.
