Trivium drummer Alex Bent has amicably parted ways with the band after nine years. Replacing him for the remainder of the Trivium’s tour is Sepultura’s drummer Greyson Nekrutman.

Trivium and drummer Alex Bent announced that they would be parting ways hours before their show at Aftershock festival this past Friday (October 3rd).

Bent, who had been the band’s drummer for over nine years, released a statement announcing his departure in the lead-up to Trivium’s performance, writing, “I am beyond grateful for the incredible past 9 years with @triviumband —filled with unforgettable moments, music, and friendships that I’ll always carry with me.”

His statement would continue:

“I’m so proud of every record and tour we created together, and I know Trivium will continue to dominate the world; they’ll always have my support. While this chapter has come to a close, this is by no means the end of my path as a musician. I’m excited for this new chapter, and I look forward to continuing to create, perform, and share music in new ways. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. Your encouragement means the world.”

Trivium frontman Matt Heafy would reply in the comments, writing, “Wishing you and your family nothing but the best,” and the same day, the band’s social media accounts shared Bent’s post while adding: “Trivium wishes @alexbentdrums success on his future endeavours as he exits the band.”

Bent would also clarify later that his departure isn’t signalling a break from music or time away from the scene. The drummer would write: “I just want to send a sincere thank you to every single person who has supported me the past 9 years with trivium, and even before that. It never has and never will go unnoticed. I have no plans to slow down and I am looking forward to whatever the future brings.”

So, it’s still unclear the reasons for why Bent has decided to leave the band, however, given that Heafy and Bent are still replying to each other in public, one can hope it was an amicable split with no bad blood between the two.

The band would later confirm on social media that Sepultura drummer Greyson Nekrutman would be joining the band for their Aftershock performance and the remainder of their fall tour.

“Trivium welcomes @greyson_nekrutman on the drums. Catch him at @aftershockfestival & on our Fall Tour with @jinjer_official & @heriotmetal,”

Nekrutman would reply in the comment “Let’s go,” which Heafy would also reply: “Thanks for everything @greyson_nekrutman !! Thank you @sepultura for letting us hang with your phenom of a drummer. We played slave new world in your honor!!! @andreaskisser @derrickgreenofficial @pauloxistoofficial.”

Sepultura would later release a statement via social media clarifying that Nekrutman would rejoin the band for their farewell tour in 2026.

“As many of you may already know, our drummer Greyson Nekrutman has temporarily joined our friends from Trivium as their drummer. In 2026, he’ll be back with Sepultura, resuming his place in the band as we continue our farewell tour. Stay tuned for new tour dates coming soon!”
