Watch Sleep Token’s iii Join Trivium During Their Career-Defining Bloodstock Set

Share

Trivium just performed a career-defining set at the heavy metal festival Bloodstock, joined by Sleep Token’s iii, Emperor’s Ihsahn, Malevolence’s Josh Baines and Machine Head’s Robb Flynn.

Trivium have been called the “kings of metal“, and are looking to keep their crown, if their performance at Bloodstock Open Air last weekend proves anything.

The band’s performance on Friday saw them joined by several iconic metal guests, including Sleep Token bass player iii, Emperor’s Ihsahn, Malevolence‘s Josh Baines and Machine Head’s Robb Flynn.

Flynn would join the stage as Trivium paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, performing ‘Symptom of the Universe’. Following the performance, Trivium frontman Matt Heafy would post on social media:

“We recently lost a hero of metal”, adding, “I shouldn’t even say a hero of metal. A man without whose influence none of this shit would exist. I wouldn’t be here, we wouldn’t be here – none of these fucking bands would be here.

“Metal would not sound the fucking same, rock wouldn’t sound the same, fucking metalcore, deathcore, none of that shit would fucking exist without this man. And you know exactly what I’m talking about.”

Sleep Token bassist iii would then join the band to perform Trivium’s 2008 track ‘Throes of Perdition. You can check out a snippet of the clip below.

Trivium were initially set to perform in Australia later this year with Bullet For My Valentine for their Poisoned Ascendency tour. After successful stints across the UK, Europe, and most of North America, fans in Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan were eagerly anticipating their turn to witness the carnage. That is, until the two bands had a massive falling out sometime during the North American leg of the tour.

Bullet For My Valentine would cancel the tour, claiming they wanted to return to the studio to record new material. The band would then, months later, announce an Australian tour with While She Sleeps and The Devil Wears Prada as support. Heafy would comment on social media, teasing BFMV about the sudden change.

Regardless, after seeing the setlist for Bloodstock, you can’t help but mourn what could have been a killer Australian tour.
